Message from the Director

Dear Parents,

We are fast approaching the end of the school year and looking forward to some much-needed time off from a very hectic but successful year. As we prepare for the next academic year, we have some changes we’d like to share with you.

Last week Primary students took their MAP exams and today secondary will finish taking theirs. We will be utilizing the data to pinpoint student successes and areas where they may need additional support.

Having just received authorization for the MYP, our objective as an IB Continuum School is to continue to provide the best possible education for all of our students. As we worked with the visiting team, we received valuable feedback on how to proceed moving forward.

As music is not a required course in the MYP, there is more flexibility in the schedule. We have listened to you and are now able to offer French as an elective during regular school hours from grades 6 to 10.

Differentiation is important to meet the needs of individual students but is a constant challenge due to our small size; having one class per grade. While smaller class size is desirable in all classes, we have decided to split English classes from 7th through 9th grade and Mathematics classes will be split in 9th grade starting on next school year 2021-2022 and in 10th grade for the 2022-2023 school year. Our goal is to ensure students are well prepared for success in the Diploma program.

Soon you will be receiving more information and split classes from your Program Coordinator and by late June, secondary parents and students will receive information on elective choices.

It has been a difficult year throughout the world and education has suffered as many students were not ablet to attend school in person. I speak on behalf of the entire team as ASB when I say how fortunate we have been to deliver instruction face to face this entire year. We look forward to continuing working with you to provide the best possible opportunities for our students and thank you for your continued support.
