End of the year Director Letter

End of the year Director Letter

Dear Parents,

It is hard to believe how quickly this school year has passed and come to an end.  This has been an especially successful year: I observed an entire school community, past and present, come together to plan and celebrate our 50th Anniversary. It was confirmation that we are truly working together to fulfill the mission and vision of the American School of Bilbao.

  • – Our Board of Directors: Who formulate policy and provide direction in line with our vision.
  • – Our PTO:  Who stepped up this year through numerous initiatives to make this 50th anniversary a memorable year and for their continued support of our teachers
  • – Our Parents: Who commit time and energy every day to support a nurturing environment for our students
  • – Our Teachers and Teacher Assistants:  Who work tirelessly to construct rich experiences where students grow and learn.  They encourage curiosity and give our student the confidence to become lifelong learners.
  • – Our Support Staff:  Who make things happen behind the scenes and office go unnoticed.  Business manager, tech dept., office staff, cook and cafeteria workers, custodian, bus monitors and drivers

A heartfelt THANK YOU not one of us could have done it alone.

Finally, I am particularly proud of the stellar achievements and accomplishments of our students.  Join me in wishing our graduates all the best as they journey on to new places to pursue their dreams.

Here are some highlights from this past academic year.

  • – Successful PYP accreditation visit (Full accreditation expected in August)
  • – MUN award winners in top venues throughout Europe
  • – DECA, Los Angeles with two participants receiving top awards
  • – Winter Concert in Euskalduna
  • – 50th Anniversary Cocktail
  • – 2nd SRT University Fair held at our school
  • – Major structural repairs throughout the school
  • – Increase in student enrollment
  • – First Pride Day, Color War and Spirit Week at ASB
  • – Increased professional development for teachers
  • – We are going digital:  Chromebooks in 5th grade with more class sets ordered for next year
  • – A wider variety of IBDP courses being offered

In closing, I like to take this opportunity to congratulate all students of ASB! I wish you all a very happy, safe and enjoyable summer. I look forward to seeing you all in September.

Kind regards,
