2018 Extended Essay Ceremony
One of the International Baccalaureate core components has come to an end and as a way of celebrating this major achievement we would like to invite you to the Extended Essay Ceremony that will be held on DECEMBER 1, 2017 at 9.15 am at the American School of Bilbao.
The Seniors will present the Director and Extended Essay Coordinator with their papers and they will be recognised by the school in successfully completing with the first of many requirements. After that, the seniors will be presenting their Extended Essays in different classrooms for students, teachers, parents and PTO and Board Members so that everyone could gain an insight on the process they have been through and to learn about the final product.
We would love to share with you this very special milestone in the Senior’s journey towards becoming IBDP graduates.
A message to the Class of 2018 on the completion of the Extended Essay
The International Baccalaureate® (IB) Diploma Programme was established 50 years ago, among other things, to provide students with a balanced academically challenging education and to promote international understanding.
The IB programmes aim to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who are motivated to succeed.
At ASB and through the IB we work hard everyday to develop students who have excellent depth of knowledge and who flourish physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically.
Back in 2012, the ASB community decided to embark on the IBDP journey because we believe that by the time you graduate, you will, among other things, be better able than your peers to cope with demanding workloads, manage your time more efficiently and meet the expectations placed upon you.
One of the components of the DP that certainly helps developing those skills is the Extended Essay. Many, if not all, of ASB DP Graduates confirm that having gone through the process of engaging on the DP’s extended essay improves their approach to learning in higher education.
Through the research process for the extended essay that lasted almost a year, these students that are submitting their Extended Essays today have developed skills in: formulating and reformulating an appropriate research question, engaging in a personal exploration of a topic, communicating ideas efficiently and coherently and developing an argument.
So today, we are not only celebrating a major milestone in the path to graduation, but also the effort put forth by students and supervisors, the moments of uncertainty, the panic of sitting in front of a blank page in the computer screen, the satisfaction of having completed the 4000 words and more on this research paper that has become part of your memories, dreams, nightmares and excuses for not completing other work. But most importantly, we are celebrating your growth, endurance and the self awareness and autonomy that you have gained in the process.
Congratulations on the completion of the 4000 word extended essay.
